I was raised in a very musical household. My fondest memories begin with the constant sound of Steinway keys being hammered in my living room. It’s weird realizing that “Designing a Nervous Breakdown” came out when I was 10 years old, but my opinions about music started when I was very young. Listening to this record always reminds me of my brother coming home from The Virgin Megastore, where he worked at the time, with stacks of crappy promotional cds. I don’t exactly remember where my love for The Anniversary begins or how it came about, but to this day I still hold a spot for this record very close to my heart.
The record holds a very nice blend of pop rock with emo tendencies. The opening song briefly gives you the feeling that you are listening to Cap’n Jazz. The Anniversary will make you feel so great regardless of what’s going on in the world. DANB is in itself a pop record, but it is imperfect and not polished to the T like some radio rock anthems can be. It gives off the perfect vibe and to me that is why I can always appreciate this record unconditionally almost like a person. Do it.
