Rebuilt 7″ Album Review

Rebuilt
Hardcore/Punk
Washington, USA

For Fans Of: Verse, Sinking Ships

As far as straight edge hardcore is concerned in 2009 there is a plethora of bands that can’t even begin to compare to their predecessors. With bands like Have Heart and Seven Generations dominating the scene touring constantly and making way for more and more random, sometimes horrible, young bands alike, I was a little reluctant to listen to Washington’s Rebuilt.

Their self-titled 7” released on the Santa Cruz label, Silly Girl Records, is a good solid start for the group. The four songs on the demo count in lasting a little over ten minutes. The seemingly grungey punk guitar tone is perfectly accompanied by raspy vocals with lyrics about internal stability and standing your ground. Straight edge or not, these songs are brought to you without any pretentious demeanor. If you like Verse or Sinking Ships then Rebuilt will be one of your new favorite bands.

I recently saw this band play in my friend’s garage. Accompanied by a wall of speakers, they brought the onset of emotional hardcore. We stood in a room bare with only broken glass from forty ounce bottles lost ironically during a set of straight edge punk rock. Rebuilt went even so far to cover the beloved Rage Against The Machine song from the self titled ‘Know Your Enemy’ giving insight to their influence. Buy their seven inch and support independent music.
