The very first time I had heard the 1994 record entitled ‘Heroin Man’ from Austin based band, Cherubs, was probably a good 4 years ago. Do you know that feeling when you see something so utterly disgusting and you are so disturbed with your own eyes you feel the need to stop looking, but for some reason you have to keep staring and staring no matter how hard you try not to? I feel like listening to this record is the same thing to me and might as well as be for others.
The album flows without much ease from mid tempo noise rock anthems to the droning abyss of fragrant noise and dependency. Don’t forget the child like moan of some grown ass man making it almost unbearable. If any band is good at being god awful, it is Cherubs.
