How many Donnie Darko samples can we fit on a 26 minute record? Listening to Ed Gein always brings back to my junior year in high school. I have a very vivid memory of my shaggy black hair sitting above my eyes while listening to ‘Its a shame…’ during my 5th period American History class. I would hide my cd player in my hoodie pocket and have the little ear bud headphones come up underneath the zip up during lectures. Who gives a shit about Indian Schools when I can listen to one of the best 3 piece bands that has ever existed.
The ‘It’s A Shame’ LP came out on Hex Records in 2003. One of my favorite records to this day. I still recall the show they played at the now empty Tempe Barn Bar called Minder Binders. It was a weeknight right during Christmas break. They played outdoors on an enormous stage. The drummer asked for crowd participation and encouraged us to get on stage with them, I got up there and lit up a cigarette. He then looked me straight in the eyes and announced the song title being “The Marlboro Man Is A Douche Bag”. Check out their website here.
